This publication ran from 1983 to 1990 and was the main one to read if you had an Electron ;-) I subscribed to the magazine for a couple of years in the late 80's but I am still missing a lot of the early ones; I bought these only every now and again back in the beginning so my collection has a lot of gaps!
Over at Acorn Electron World there is a complete archive of the magazine, including a spreadsheet that can be queried to assist in searches within the issues. A vast amount of work and another good reason to buy the AEW DVD ;-)
I still re-read this magazines; even the ones that I had BITD - it really feeds the nostalgia of the Electron! Also, even after all these years, there are still so many games and other software that I have not yet tried and it's nice to scan back through and read old reviews or see the advertisments.
I really enjoy playing text-adventure games; I love the way they work with the players imagination... you don't need pictures or graphics! Electron User had an excellent section each month that focused on text adventures, within this there were reviews of the latest arrivals, questions from readers and also maps and solutions. Many will remember Pendragon, who took over the column from Merlin. The column had great atmosphere.
As well as keeping an eye out for the magazines that i am missing from my collection, I am also searching for some more of the red binders that were sold back then by Electron User. Please send me an email if you have any going spare!
We fast forward to the present day and I am most pleased to bring news of a new publication, very much in the style of Electron User....
Electron Forever is a new magazine with fresh content that carries a lot of the feel of the old Electron User.
At the moment it's a PDF only (first issue just out at the time of writing) but Anthony Ogden (EF Editor) has plans for a physical version if there is enough interest.
Anyhoo, head over to the Electron Forever site and grab your copy today!
